Prakash Mehra who was a born legend in the film Industry, who has given life to Amitabh Bachchan for his unforgettable super hits had a cosective houseful more than a 100 days had ran in theaters. Mr Mehra is no more on the Planet. It is very sad news for entire Bollywood industry, and also for his fans.
Veteran filmmaker Prakash Mehra passed away on Sunday May 17th morning at the Kokilaben Hospital in Andheri, Mumbai. He was 70. Mehra had been seriously ill for the last three years. He was admitted to the hospital few weeks back and was kept on ventilator. He is going to be cremated at the Juhu crematorium.
Mehra ventured into filmmaking with 1968 Shashi Kapoor starrrer ‘Haseena Maan Jayegi’ followed by the 1971 hit ‘Mela’, which had Feroz Khan and Sanjay Khan in lead roles. However, it was Amitabh Bachchan starrer blockbuster hit ‘Zanjeer’ (1973) that not only catapulted him into the big league but also gave the Hindi film industry its ‘angry young man’.
Mr. Mehra (69) died in the morning of pneumonia and multiple organ failure, hospital sources said.
Mehra is credited for giving Amitabh Bachchan that BIG BREAK with his Zanjeer, following which there was no looking back for the Big B. Just few days back, Amitabh had visiting an ailing Mehra at the Kokilaben Hospital and rubbished all rumours about a fall out between the two.
Recently he was visited by Amitabh while he was in the intensive care unit in the hospital. Mehra’s health is said to have worsened after his wife’s death. He is survived by two sons – Sumeet and Amit.
Mr Mehra had received a lifetime achievement award from the India Motion Picture Directors Association (IMPDA) in 2006. He had also received Lifetime Achievement as Producer from IMPAA (Indian Motion Picture Producers Association) on September 19, 2008.
Prakash Mehra’s last directorial venture was Bal Brahmchari, which marked the debut of Puru Raaj Kumar, the son of the late Raj Kumar. The film was a complete washout at the B-O and also happened to be the last film of Prakash Mehra as director.
