Film star Akshay Kumar was arrested Monday morning by the police here in connection with obscene behaviour in public during the recent Lakme India Fashion Week (LIFW), a senior police official said.
‘We arrested him under Indian Penal Code Section 294, which deals with obscenity in public. Since it is a bailable offence, he was released on bail,’ said Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Arvind Mahabadhi.
During the LIFW early April, Akshay had unbuttoned his jeans, while walking the ramp, at the instance of his wife Twinkle Khanna.
The LIFW had attracted other celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan and Naomi Campbell, who had walked the ramp, promoting various designers.
Akshay’s unbuttoning act had kicked up a storm with some private individuals lodging police complaints, accusing Akshay of immoral and indecent behaviour in public.
ACP Mahabadhi said that now the case would be further investigated and depending on the outcome, a charge-sheet would be filed against the star.

During his catwalk appearance at Lakme India Fashion Week in April, Akshay Kumar walked up to his wife, Twinkle Khanna, who was seated in the front row, and asked her to undo the top button of his jeans.
The case against him was filed by Anil P Nayar, a social worker, who says the unbuttoning of the jeans was “vulgar and indecent”.
In an interview with the Hindustan Times newspaper published on Monday, Kumar apparently made light of the complaint.
“I just want to make it home… without my car being egged by all those who have never been unbuttoned by their wives,” he said.
Kumar has made a name for himself by playing lead roles in action and comedy films.
His film, Singh is King, was one of the biggest hits of 2008.
In 2007, he appeared in several hits, like Namastey London, Heyy Babyy, Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Welcome.
He was recently awarded Padma Shri, India’s civilian award for eminent people.
