David Dhawan says Good movie needs emotional director

Posted on 31 Jul 2009 at 4:50pm
Good movie needs emotional director: David Dhawan
New Delhi: One of Bollywood`s most successful comedy makers directors, David Dhawan, says a filmmaker has to be emotional to make a good movie. He also admits to getting stressed even now before the release of each of his films.
“If you don`t know how to cry or laugh, then you can`t understand the audience. The goodness has to be within you to come up with something exciting. A good movie should have the right mix of emotions, backed by a powerful script,” Dhawan told reporters here.
Dhawan`s upcoming “Do Knot Disturb” is again a lighthearted romantic comedy that stars Govinda, Riteish Deshmukh, Lara Dutta and Sushmita Sen. It is scheduled for a September release.
He is also working on another project titled “Hook Ya Crook” that stars John Abraham, Kay Kay Menon, Shreyas Talpade and Genelia D`Souza.
After teaming up with stars like Govinda, Anil Kapoor and Salman Khan in several hits, Dhawan now wants to make a movie with animals as protagonists.
“I love animals and I want to make one movie with them. I have always wanted to make a movie with animals, but for that you need a trained animal and lots of patience too,” said Dhawan, who used a chimpanzee in “Aankhen” and a dog in “Biwi No.1″.
He confesses he was under extreme stress before the release of his first hit, “Shola Aur Shabnam” (1992).
“I must admit that `Shola Aur Shabnam` was my last chance to prove myself as a director. I had given a series of flops before the film…. and I had no clue what I would do if the movie would fail at the box-office,” said Dhawan.
“When the film was released, I was under extreme pressure and nervous too. My condition was so bad that I was shivering and my wife had to give me brandy to put me to sleep. But when I got a call at 5 a.m. from a film critic who told me that my film in not just good but too good and a hit, I was relieved. After that I never looked back,” he added.
After the success of the Govinda-Divya Bharati starrer, Dhawan gave a series of hits like “Saajan Chale Sasural” and “Deewana Mastana”, “Biwi No.1″, “Jodi No.1″, “Hero No.1″ and “No Entry”.
But even after so many hits, Dhawan gets nervous before the release of his movies.
“For every film of mine, I`m nervous. I hide myself in the editing room because I have raised the level of people`s expectations…What bothers me mostly is whether audience will like my movie or not, whether my movie will make them laugh or not.
“Sometimes you have to outdo your own projects,” said the director.
Post-”Shola Aur Shabnam”, the Dhawan-Govinda combination was seen as a sure shot success at the ticket window. But the director has also churned out hits with other stars like Anil, Salman and Sanjay Dutt.

David Dhawan reveals that  filmmaker has to be emotional to make a good movie who is one of the best and most successful director in the field of comedy in bollywoood. According to him, the filmmakers should have the knowledge of how to cry or laugh, than only he can understand the audience.

Agood movie requires right mix of emotions, backed by a powerful script.Dhawan`s upcoming “Do Knot Disturb” is again a lighthearted romantic comedy that stars Govinda, Riteish Deshmukh, Lara Dutta and Sushmita Sen. Ten steps to become a Bollywood Actor / Actress

Posted on 29 Jul 2009 at 6:27pm

Looking for steps to Become a Bollywood Actor / Actress? You are at right place and here are the greatest ten tips for becoming aBollywood Actor or Actress.

Bollywood (films) is one of the biggest industry of India. Becoming an actor or actress is not a cakewalk and you have to toil and struggle a lot. Most of the big Stars who are the icons of Bollywood have done their share of struggle and then reached to that level. Assuming that you do not have a star father or relative to launch you in Bollywood – you need other ways to come up in this industry.

To become a Bollywood Actor / Actress you have to be good – well that’s obvious. But we mean it and that is why we are writing it. You have to be good at following – if you have all ‘10′ of the following you are a fit for Bollywood struggle:

10 Qualities you need to become a Bollywood Actor / Actress?

  1. You have good looks
  2. You have good physique and you maintain it
  3. You have good voice
  4. You have good commend over Hindi (must) and English (sometimes optional)
  5. You have good acting capabilities
  6. You are a good networker and get along well with people
  7. You are ready for prolonged struggle
  8. You can handle relationships and emotional disappointments
  9. You are ready to learn till death
  10. You can (sometimes) act selfish for your interests

Now if you fulfill the above criteria then we have next steps for you which you can use and try to enter the Bollywood.

(1) Learn acting: Yes however good you are – formal traing will shorten your struggle so learn acting formally. Apply to Film And Television Institute Of India (www.ftiindia.com) or National School of Drama (nsd.gov.in). If you can not get through them – then try some private institutes like Anupam Kher’s Actor Prepares – The School for Actors (www.actorprepares.net). But remember learning formally is a must for you to feel confident on sets and it will be fun.

(2) Learn Dancing: Yep – however good actor you are you are nobody in Bollywood – if you do not know how to dance. So take the formal training from best of trainers – like Shiamak Davar (www.sdipa.com). You have to be good at dancing to be a good actor in Bollywood. Remember the more you sweat in peace the less you will bleed in war – so dance baby dance.

(3) Network: Start networking with folks in bollywood, hollywood (and other woods in India) – use online networking tools, your contacts in a focussed manner and connect with as many people as you can. Have good professional relationships – as you do not know who will be your next help in this industry. Network with guest lecturers in your college, network with directors, photographers, editors, producers etc. There is no need that you have to ask for a role while networking – just connect and make friends. Network, Network, Network…

(4) Learn professionalism: Professionalism is misused word in the industry – so you define what is professionalism to you and follow that. To me it is meeting time committments, delivering what is committed, being at arms lenght distance, keeping personal life private etc. You define your own boundaries and limts and stick to them. There may be instances where you may be asked to compromise – take out your professionalism yardstick and measure if that is what you want to do.

(5) Make a professional portfolio: You should make a professional portfolio including a physical portfolio album, CD portfolio and a website. Make your website dynamic with a blog section in it for your latest achievements. Have photographs taken of yourself by professionals. Make an attractive portfolio send them out with your acting resume to those who matter.

(6) Become known and famous: Yes you have to become famous if you are not getting any direct offers. But chose the route to become famous carefully – it should not affect your prospects in Bollywood negatively. You have options to join any of the reality shows, talent hunt shows, model hunt, Miss India or Mr India shows, do some Modelling assignments (for some big brands). Do not join the small screen in soaps and serials – yes that may harm your interests. Shahrukh Khan may be an exception.

(7) Appoint an agent, appoint a secretary and find a mentor: You will need an agent to survive in the industry. You will find many in the industry circles. Agents are people in Bollywood with contacts and information – they act like your representative and promote you with producers. Hire a secretary to do your correspondence and communicate on your behalf (well it imporoves your value by having a secretary). And find a senior person in industry and ask him to become your mentor to advise you on any issue or concern.

(8) Appoint a PR agent: You will need an professional to do your PR – which not only means releasing your activities to press but also advising you on what activitis to do. Remember the hype is very important for industry and PR agents know how to use print, radio, tv and web to generate interest about you.

(9) Chose your fist film carefully: Be it the script, be it the banner, be it the co stars, be it the role – chose your first film carefully. I know sometimes beggers can not be the chosers – but remember do not do a movie which looks flop from the drawing board.

(10) Have faith in yourself and keep trying: Yes and many ask how long we keep trying before giving up? Well if you ask me I will say till you get it. But being practical – try after after you have started from step 7 for at least three full years before giving up or taking an alternative career.

I hope that these tips will help the budding actors and acress to have a clear thought process and make their plans effectively. If you follow these tips and find them useful do write in the comments below and share them

Sanjay Dutt turns 50 celebrating his birthday

Posted on 29 Jul 2009 at 4:57pm
Sanjay Dutt turns 50 celebrating his birthday today. Sanjay was born on July 29, 1959. The actor is presently in Cape Town, South Africa, shooting for Anil Kapoor’s home production No Problem directed by Anees Bazmee. Sanjay’s wife Manyata and some of his close friends are already in Cape Town.
Sanjay Dutt is the kind of a man who  always wants to earn any thing on his own, even he was born for the golden plate, never felt that he was rich and started earning his image in the bollywood film industry.
Sanjay’s debut film Rocky still remains as one of the most memorable films in Bollywood. Sanjay Dutt has given all kind performance in the films like Daag The Fire, Haseena Maan Jaayegi, and Vaastav.
Sanjay Dutt turns a year older today. At 50, he’s one of the rare stars who still continue to get leading roles in Bollywood after having lived half a century.
But Sanju hasn’t planned big celebrations for the special day. He says he can’t think of celebrations until his “brother” Amar Singh recovers fully from a recent surgery.
The actor is presently in Cape Town, South Africa, shooting for Anil Kapoor’s home production No Problem directed by Anees Bazmee. Sanjay’s wife Manyata and some of his close friends are already in Cape Town.
There would be a small get-together of Sanjay’s friends in the evening. He has also invited his two sisters, with whom he’s been sharing a rocky relationship ever since his marriage. However, the two sisters, Priya and Namrata, are too busy to fly to South Africa for Sanjay’s birthday.
Sanjay Dutt entered the film industry in 1981. His rocky and eventful life could be translated into a potboiler.. He’s battled drug addiction and served a long time behind bars for his alleged role in the 1993 Mumbai blasts. In fact, he’s still not been acquitted in the case and has to seek special permissions to travel abroad.
Wishing Sanjay Dutt a very happy Birthday!
Even though his native is a village near district Yamuna Nagar in Haryana, this kid was born and brought up in the glamour-oozing city of Mumbai. He is one of those very few ’star-sons’ who just did not want to take things on a golden plate, instead, choose to earn their star-status. We are indeed talking about today’s Birthday boy Sanjay Dutt, the humble son of the most illustrious parents: the late Sunil Dutt and Nargis Dutt.
Sanjay’s debut film Rocky still remains as one of the most memorable films in Bollywood. What followed after that, were an array of films that not just consolidated his position in Bollywood, but also catapulted him into the top league in no time. Even though bad times befell on Sanjay’s life in the form of drug abuse and possession of illegal arms, Sanjay stood terra firma against all this and came out clean to accept his mistake, an action that only a true son of the soil can do! It was this acceptance of guilt that transformed the man called Sanjay Dutt into a household name called ‘Sanju baba’, which later on took the form of the most affable ‘Munnabhai’, an unforgettable identity that the Indian cinema has ever produced!
In the recent times, besides the smash hit Munnabhai series, Sanju also gave some of his unforgettable performances in films like Daag The Fire, Haseena Maan Jaayegi, and Vaastav, which even earned him the Best Actor in a Leading Role award at the prestigious Filmfare Awards.

Lisa Lazarus will play as Princess in Veer

Posted on 29 Jul 2009 at 3:32pm
I Play Princess opposite Salman Khan in VEER: Lisa!!
Lo and behold!! Salman Khan has done it again. Once again a firang babe Lisa Lazarus, who is making her bollywood debut opposite the handsome hunk in upcoming Veer as an English princess, has fallen for his charms(of course, not in Katrina way) and started singing his tune even before the release of the film.
Though Lisa Lazarus, who was crowned Miss Universe UK in year 2008, is no less mesmerizing in her own way, but the lady seems to have been floored by Salman Khan’s aura and personality on the sets of ‘Veer.’ In fact, Lisa considers Salman Khan to be the most talented of all the Khans of bollywood, and that includes the names of biggies like Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan.
In the Anil Sharma directed upcoming flick ‘Veer’, Lisa Lazarus’s role envisages her to enact the part of a fun loving English princess who falls for the charms of an Indian warrior, played by Salman Khan.
Salman Khan, who plays a nineteenth century warrior and belongs to a war tribe Pindari, is fighting against British rule. However, it does not deter him from saving the Princess Lisa Lazarus when she is attacked by a lion in a jungle. Lisa had gone to the jungle on a hunting spree for fun, when this incident happens. This rescue the damsel act forms the base of a romantic relationship between the two protagonists.
Lisa Lazarus is a big fan of bollywood and lapped up the role of Princess when offered by the filmmakers. Though at that time, she had just won the title of Miss Universe UK and was hardly twenty- one years of age. Sources say that Lisa was well aware of Salman Khan’s big status in bollywood, and so grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
However, the long spell of shooting for mega-budget flick ‘Veer’ took its toll on Lisa Lazarus’s personal life and she lost her boyfriend in UK. Sources say that while Lisa was busy with shooting for the film, her boyfriend wanted more time from her, which was not possible. Finally, the long distance relationship could not sustain the pressure and went kaput.
The grapevine has it that Lisa Lazarus is well aware of Katrina Kaif’s place in Salman Khan’s life and hence has been taking every step cautiously. In fact, Lisa is said to have opined that Katrina was a beautiful woman, but they were quite different from each other, and so needed more time to understand her.
Salman Khan-Lisa Lazarus starrer ‘Veer’ is a mega budget flick being produced by Vijay Galani and directed by Anil Sharma of ‘Gadar’ fame. Salman Khan has been closely involved with the script of the film, and even has tried a new gladiator look to make his character nearer to reality.
Lisa Lazarus gets a foothold in Bollywood

Mumbai: Salman has successfully mentored another beauty and Lisa Lazarus – Miss Universe UK 2008, is now handling the Bollywood tricks very well. Playing a fun-loving English princess in Salman’s upcoming mammoth project ‘Veer’, Lisa says things have been easy with Sallu around.
Cheerfully informing about her role to a news daily, she said, “My character has a big part to play in the film. In fact, I found it easy to slip into the role since it is so much like my personality.”
Having spent a large part of her time in India with Bollywood’s bad-boy Salman, she was naturally questioned about his moody ways. She said, “Working with Salman has been the highlight of filming. Since I was new to the industry, he took me under his wings. I got taught by the best. I hope to make him proud since I know how much ‘Veer’ means to him.”
She did handle this part well. Onto the next stage of her resemblance to Katrina, she answered, “Katrina is a beautiful woman, but we are different in our ways.” Very much in control of her answers, Lisa added, “Katrina is a very nice person. We got along like a house on fire, but I would like to spend some more time with her and get her views on Bollywood. I would need some advice on what course to take next.”

Lisa Lazarus making her bollywood debut with Salman Khan in her/ his up coming flick Veer. Lisa will be playting as an English princess who falls  in love  with his charms salman.

Lisa Lazarus was crowned Miss Universe UK in year 2008. According Lisa Salman Khan is the most talented and  best actor among the Khans Including Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan.

Anil Sharma is been the director for the film.

Princess Lisa Lazarus when she is attacked by a lion in a jungle, our hero Salman enters and saves princess, this shot might have impressed Lisa to give title to Salman as most talented. Salman will be back with his lion hearted permonace like Gladiater
