Gone are the days where romantic movies used to rule the roost at theaters. With the passing time, the trend is shifting towards the ‘real life’, the struggles that ordinary people face. The latest Hindi movie to hit theaters, ‘Jashnn’ also skips the ‘larger than life’ protagonists and revolves around the dreams and ambitions of a ‘nobody’, who wants to be a ‘somebody’ in the field of singing. Though the basic premise behind the movie is interesting, it failed to transform into something substantial onscreen.
One of the main problems with ‘Jashnn’ is that it fails to focus on its core premise. The struggling musician is hardly seen making efforts to reach his dream. In fact, rather than a story of a rock star’s professional struggle, it becomes an emotionally-laden family drama. The first half of the film is quite strong and moves at a fast pace. However, after interval, you cannot help, but stifle a few yawns. By the time the movie reaches climax, it gets hold of the earlier pace once again.
The screenplay of ‘Jashnn’ is quite good, invoking the right kind of emotions in the audience. All the performances are above par as well. One of the main strengths of the movie is Shahana, who woos you with her brilliant act, especially before the interval. Even Adhyayan is worth looking out for. He exudes confidence onscreen and managed to bring out some more maturity in his acting. While Anjana was kinda okay, Humayun’s villainous acting surely brought him great applause. All in all, this is an emotional film, which if not too good, does manage to rise beyond the mediocre level.

In the process of reaching his destiny, Akash finds himself shattered when he encounters a sordid truth. His elder sister Nisha, who works to earn money and provide him with a decent lifestyle, is the mistress of a very rich businessman, known as Aman Bajaj. The twist in the tale occurs when Akash finds Sara in his life, a person who proves to be his mentor as well as his biggest support, when he undergoes a very painful period in his professional life. Unknown to him, Sara is none other than the sister of his biggest enemy – Aman Bajaj. However, she makes Akash realize that he is a singer with an inherent talent and he should never give up hope.
With Sara’s genuine love and support, Akash surmounts the toughest period of his life, discovers his voice once again and starts on the journey to success. Luck also starts showering on Akash soon after. He becomes an overnight star and manages to restore dignity to his beleaguered sister as well. Will Akash continue to be his good old self even after achieving stardom? Will he succeed in living up to the faith that Sara had shown in him all along the way?
