According to the latest reports confirm that India-born legendary Ghazal singer Mehdi Hassan died today at a private clinic in Sindh’s provincial capital Karachi, Pakistan.
Hassan was a renowned Ghazal singer in the Indian sub-continent because of his background as a gharana trained classical singer. He put off to his performances in the late 80s due to illness. India-born legendary Ghazal singer Mehdi Hassan last performed in India in 2000. There was a buzz that the Rajasthan government had support to the ailing singer’s family and had even vowed a medical treatment in the state.
Mehdi Hassan somehow was a misfortunate to visit India for treatment. However, he wished to meet Lata Mangeshkar, Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan. Hassan who sung some evergreen ghazals like Ab ke bichade and Patta patta boota boota, was admitted to Aga Khan Hospital in Karachi three months ago with a bad lung infection.
The ghazal legend also saw some complications and breathing problems. The legendary singer was born into a family of traditional musicians at Luna village in Rajasthan in 1927.
