Gangs Of Wasseypur movie Review – Gangs Of Wassypur 2012 Bollywood Hindi movie starring Manoj Bajpayee and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead roles.
Anurag Kashyap came up with his new venture titled Gangs Of Wasseypur which features an imperious and engaging plot, vengeance being its nucleus subject matter, film hits the big screens today. Anurag Kashyap brings to you a whole new subject and narrates a story of two disputing families set against the environment of the coal mining groups in Dhanbad.
The film has strong performances by the cast with cleverly narrated story and has several power-packed sequences that make you speechless. ‘Gangs Of Wasseypur’ has a fickle first half, but the film smooth and gripping post intermission. There is no hint of dull moment in the second half of the gangster epic, the plot explores number of unbelievable things with visual style, inter weaved with commanding, sour and witty lines But on the other side the screenplay could’ve been crisper and tense, but its stretchy run time makes you nervous , even though the content enthrall you on numerous points. Also, you need to have strong stomach indeed to absorb a film like ‘Gangs Of Wasseypur’.
The generous usage of hard words, the gruesome violence, the unacceptable visuals can prove to be disturbing to an unmindful spectator. This film is the typical Bollywood entertainer. It’s not like anything the Hindi moviebuff has ever watched. This film is not for those don’t have courage or lily-livered. But if you are keen to experience something absolutely new, chances are you may come out feeling refreshed and completely enjoyed. The soundtrack of ‘Gangs Of Wasseypur’ is decent, but tough to choose the best one, ‘O Womaniya’ and ‘Jiya Ho Bihar Ke Lala’ certainly good, ‘Kehke Lunga’ is also a OK. Besides, ‘Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki’ and ‘Salaam-E-Ishq’, the yesteryear hits, are smartly inserted in the narration.
Manoj Bajpayee who delivered some brilliant performance in his films has done an outstanding job in this one. The skilled actor looked master in doing incredible sequences his presence shines every sequence that he emerges in and forces you to search and keep an eye on him throughout the film. An accomplished director Tigmanshu Dhulia proves to be an incredible actor as well. Both Richa Chadda and Reema Sen have good roles, but Richa is at her best. She is simply brilliant from the very begin.
Reema is in fine touch, essaying a tough part with flourish. Nawazuddin Siddiqui is more in after the intermission of the movie is decent.Rest of the cast done their job really well.
Rating: Good – 3.5/5
On the whole, Gangs Of Wasseypur is worth a watch!
Gangs Of Wasseypur story
Towards the end of colonial India, Sahid Khan loots the British trains, impersonating the legendary Sultana Daku. Now outcast, Shahid becomes a worker at Ramadhir Singh’s colliery, only to spur a revenge battle that passes on to generations.
At the turn of the decade, Shahid’s son, the philandering Sardar Khan vows to get his father’s honor back, becoming the most feared man of Wasseypur. Staying true to its real life influences, the film explores this revenge saga through the socio-political dynamic in erstwhile Bihar (North India), in the coal and scrap trade mafia of Wasseypur, through the imprudence of a place obsessed with mainstream ‘Bollywood’ cinema.
