Sounding excited after her engagement to NRI businessman Elesh Parunjwala, item girl says she wants all her friends, including ex-boyfriend Abhishek Awasthi, to attend her wedding but will not invite her mother.
“I completely forgive Abhishek Awasthi. I was very surprised to know that he showed up on Sunday for my scheduled wedding. Surprised and touched. If I knew, I’d have welcomed him. Yesterday, he was my boyfriend. Today, he’s my friend,” Rakhi told IANS.
But she hasn’t forgiven her mother.
“Please, all that nautanki on television for five minutes can’t take away the pain I’ve gone through. As far as I’m concerned that chapter of my life is closed,” she said.
Eliminated contestants from the reality show were among those who had showed up to wish the couple Sunday. But although a wedding was expected, Rakhi and Elesh only got engaged.
“I was all set to marry Elesh on Sunday. But it was Elesh who said he wanted more time to get to know me. I’m very confident of him. But if he needs more time to get to know me, how can I force myself on him? I’m ready to wait as long as he wants,” said Rakhi.
But although she is willing to wait for Elesh to make up his mind about the wedding, she doesn’t want to shift base to Canada, where he runs a business.
“I’m completely sure Elesh is the man for me. But I do have a career in Mumbai. So he’ll have to plan our future accordingly.”
They are planning to go to Toronto together for the wedding of Elesh’s sister.

There’s one hitch. Babies give Rakhi a headache. “I’ve a migraine problem. When a child cries I get a severe headache. I don’t know how I’ll manage for a month with a stranger’s child. On top of that I’ve to cook on the show. I can’t cook to save my life.”
Ask her how she will cope when she has her own kids, and Rakhi retorts, “Apna bachcha to har koi paal leta hai, jaanwar bhi. I don’t know how I’ll cope. I think I’m going to lose my cool completely. So far people have only seen the good . Now they’ll see the real me. Elesh returned from his sister’s wedding on Tuesday night. We enter the show from Wednesday. I don’t know how I’ll manage. This show is already giving me a headache. I can’t even use makeup. Can you imagine without makeup?”
Rakhi was supposed to visit her reality-show fiancé Elesh’s hometown in Toronto. “But I couldn’t get a visa from the US to Canada. I had to really get pushed around for my US visa. It was impossible to get a visa from the US to Canada. Elesh’s family was very keen to have him over. They came for my Swayamvar all the way to Mumbai. And I couldn’t do the same for them. But no problem. As soon as my new reality show- Pati Patni Aur Woh is over, I’ll visit his family in Toronto, with Elesh.”
Rakhi says she’ll marry Elesh only when he becomes economically self-sufficient. “It’s my life and a decision like marriage should be left to me only. Elesh may be the best person in the world. But he may not be the best person for me. I don’t want him to be another Abhishek Awasthi in my life. Yes, we’re engaged. I like him a lot. But how can I hand over my life to someone who isn’t earning a proper living? That’s why we’re going on another reality show to see whether we’re really as compatible as we seemed on . I didn’t get enough time with him on that show. You and I saw his best face. Now I want to see the real Elesh. I want to marry a man who can support me. When we go to a restaurant he should pay the bill, not me. In India, wives are supposed to be looked after by husbands, not vice versa. He has seen how I live. I don’t want him to come and stay in my house; I want to live in his house. I will wait for him to afford a house. I will wait.”
Rakhi is specially worried about Elesh accepting her sexy image. “On the internet they’ve morphed my face on naked bodies. Would Elesh be able to tolerate it? He’s broadminded, yes. But God knows what he’d be like after marriage.”
She bursts into tears. “Mere dil mein bahut taqleef hai. Will Elesh be able to support me financially? I don’t want him to be known as ’s husband. Mujhe waqt chahiye. I feel I’m stuck in a stormy ocean. I can’t climb the cross just to please public. I agree Elesh is educated and he comes from a wealthy family. But all of it belongs to his father. He has nothing of his own in Mumbai, not even a home. He needs time to settle down. In the meanwhile, people are spreading dirty rumors about me. Ek insaan kitna bardaasht kare?”
Rakhi is disgusted by singer Mika’s attempts to make mileage out of her name. “I’m really tired of people using my name. I don’t want to give such people more importance. I’ve learnt the hard way how to be dignified. Jesus has taught me to be calm. My good days are just beginning. Let me remind these publicity seekers that short cuts don’t get you anywhere.”
Rakhi says she’s going through a lot of turmoil. “They are writing all kinds of things, making up all kinds of quotes about Elesh on my behalf. They’re all taking advantage of me. So many people are using me for publicity. Why are people doing these things with me? Jesus knows how much I’m suffering.”
Speaking on her former boyfriend Abhishek Awasthi Rakhi says, “I still consider him my good friend. I hope and pray he finds a good girl to marry. If ever in life he needs me, I’ll always be there. If needs me to be a dance partner in a reality show, I’ll gladly do the needful. He has supported me a lot. I’ll always be thankful to him for getting my mother out of my life. That’s one good deed he did. If Abhishek hadn’t been there, I’d have not had the courage to break away from my family. I’d have been wallowing in mud. Aaj nahin hoti. I’d have been something else. I can’t even say what I’d have been.”
Rakhi thinks her good days have started. “I know Elesh is a decent guy. But is that enough? He has been financially independent. He needed a place, and a face to latch on to, that’s why he came on the show. Abhishek Awasthi was so decent. But he was known as Rakhi’s boyfriend.”

Elesh Parujanwala wins ’s hand in Swayamwar
India’s controversial item girl on Sunday chose NRI businessman from Canada Elesh Parujanwala as her “life partner”, bringing to an end the month-long ‘Swayamwar’ drama that kept millions of viewers hooked to their TV screens.
Parujanwala was among the top three finalists who waited anxiously to be 30-year-old Rakhi’s suitor.
He finally won Rakhi’s hand pipping Manas Katyal, a 22-year-old event manager from Delhi and Chittiz Jain, the businessman from Delhi.
Romance was high in the air as Rakhi and Parujanwala said ‘I Love You’ to each other while exchanging rings and vows during the glittering ceremony attended by the boy’s family members, besides noted choreographer Saroj Khan and celebrities from the TV world.
Underlining that she needed more time to know him better, heavily bejewelled Rakhi said, “Today, we are getting engaged because both of us need some time together before we get married.”

‘Swayamwar’ means choosing one’s own husband by organising a contest. The word ‘Swayamwar’ was first mentioned in Ramayan. In this great epic, queen Seeta dares to choose her husband on her own. She holds a contest called ‘Swayamwar’ to choose the best man. After this incident Nowhere, no lady has held any such contest in the history. Now has done it! She has recreated history of Swayamwar by holding a contest in modern style.

For a month, held the ‘Rakhi Ka Swayamwar’, which was aired on NDTV Imagine. A total of sixteen contestant participated in the contest to win the heart of . After participating in various competition, three finalist were left for Rakhi’s choice. She was all excited to choose her husband.
All the three contestants – Elesh Parujanwala dressed in white sherwani with silver linings and petha, Manas Katyal and Kshitija Jain dressed in golden coloured sherwani with lot of embroidery work on it and petha, arrived on the show with their family members. The contestants and their families looked very happy, excited and nervous.
The show host Ram Kapoor had organised a grand gala marriage ceremony for Rakhi. Even members of NDTV pariwar like Ravi Kishan, Swathi Chitnis, Sudha Shivpuri, and Smitha Mohla looked excited. Among the guests Saroja Khan and Anang desai were special.
Finally, Ram welcomed all the guests. He invited the three contestants, who looked like Kings, to the stage. Everyone was on their feet to see Rakhi in her bridal dress and to know her decision. Then came Rakhi, who looked like a queen in her bridal dress and jewelery.
Ram allowed the contestants to express their last words before she hang her ‘Varamala’ to one of them. Everyone promised that they would always be her side and keep her happy through out the life.
Before going to the reveal her would be husband’s name, Rakhi thanked NDTV and its pariwar for provide her a platform to choose her husband. She said, “While taking all the decisions of my life, I have surrender myself to Lord Ishwar. He has helped me a lot. Now also, I want to pray lord Ishwar and Lord Jesus before taking the biggest decision of life. Along with her friends Anju, Priya and Hema, Rakhi prayed the god.
Holding her varamala, Rakhi went forward to the three contestants. In order to create more curiosity among the them as well as audiences, she made to and pro motions. Finally, Rakhi offered ‘Varamala’ to Elesh Parujanwala. She revealed the reason why she has chosen him. She said, “I’ve been watching and examining Elesh from the beginning. His concern for me has been same on onscreen as well as offscreen. I understand that he loves me a lot. I too love him a lot. And I promise that this is not a show and I will be with him once for all.”
